TIRUPATI:   The famous hill temple of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala near here is gearing up for the smooth conduct of Brahmotsavam festival, to be conducted twice this year.

Temple sources said that due to ''Adhika Masam'' (extra month) this year with 13 months against the usual 12 months in the traditional Hindu lunar calendar, two Brahmotsavams lasting nine days each would be conducted this year, which falls once in four years.

ONGOLE:   Continuing his controversial yatra, Kadapa Congress MP Jagan Mohan Reddy today alleged "several forces", including TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu, have come together to run him down but said he is ready to fight anyone as long as he has the support of the people.

"Chandrababu Naidu and some media houses say that all of you have been brought from Kadapa. Are they not able to see your love and affection for late Rajasekhara Reddy? What they see is how to politicise my tour to console people. I ask them what mistake am I doing? They are doing politics," he said.

HYDERABAD:   The ''Sakshar Bharat'' mission, the Centre's initiative to increase literacy in the country, is being implemented in Andhra Pradesh in 18 districts and it would soon be expanded to five more districts, Union Minister of State for HRD D Purandeswari said here today.

Highlighting the need for making people literate, she said the Centre is implementing elaborate plans to increase the literacy rate in the country, she said.

VISAKHAPATNAM:   The parents of the Indian student from Visakhapatnam, who died in the US in a water rafting accident, are hoping to receive his body later this week.

Samuel Smiles, father of Joseph Smiles, told PTI today that he is in touch with the Telugu Association of North America (TANA) and was told that the body may arrive at Hyderabad or Visakhapatnam by this week.

HYDERABAD:   Seemandhra MPs are all set to lodge a complaint against Telangana MPs before the Congress high command, for foiling the chances of the party by deliberately cooperating with Telangana leaders in the recently-held Telangana by-polls, stated Anantapur MP Anantavenkataram Reddy.

Anantavenkataram Reddy told media persons that the Seemandhra MPs would seek disciplinary action against the MPs from Telangana.
