MUMBAI:   Furious over allegations made by yesteryear actress Sadhana against him, builder Yusuf Lakdawala today met Home Minister R R Patil and Minority Affairs Minister Naseem Khan.

"The actress is troubling unnecessarily and maligning my name in public while I helped her out in some matters," Lakdawala told ministers during the meeting. 

Sadhana recently lodged an FIR complaining Lakdawala had been threatening her to vacate ''Sangeeta'', the Santacruz bungalow where she resides on the ground floor.

MUMBAI:   Twelve persons, including eight policemen, were injured when workers of Shiv Sena and Congress clashed outside Dadar railway station here in a bid to pocket credit for a new train service, prompting the police to cane charge them.

A rioting case was registered against about 250 workers of Shiv Sena, including its MPs Sanjay Raut and Bharat Kumar Raut, and a separate case was filed against 240 Congress activists, including Nilesh and Nitesh Rane, two sons of Revenue Minister Narayan Rane, police said.

"Sena activists and supporters of Congress leader Narayan Rane gathered outside the station last night claiming credit for the new train service between Mumbai and Sawantwadi."

MUMBAI:   An investigation into the four month old Mangalore Air crash that involved death of 158 lives, has revealed that the mishap occurred due to pilot's error.

An analysis of audio on the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) shows that the Air India Express Boeing 737 was incorrectly aligned to the runway while attempting to land, an NDTV report stated on Wednesday evening.

It has been found that the plane, the audio recording establishes, was too high to make a safe landing and the Ground Proximity Warning System sounded several times.

MUMBAI:   Police have approached a sessions court seeking cancellation of the bail of Hyderabad-based researcher Hari Prasad, arrested for allegedly stealing an electronic voting machine.

Hari Prasad (42), who was arrested on August 22, was granted bail by a metropolitan magistrate on August 28 after observing that his custody is not required anymore.

"We have challenged the lower court's order and sought for the accused''s bail to be cancelled," public prosecutor R V Kini said.

MUMBAI:   In a major breakthrough linking the Indian Mujahideen and the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), two people have been arrested for the German Bakery bombing that killed 17 people in Maharashtra's Pune city this February, officials said Wednesday.

While one man was arrested in Nashik, the other was nabbed in Pune. Both were arrested Tuesday.

'The prime suspect, Himayat Baig, was arrested from Pune at 3.15 p.m. on Tuesday while Shaikh Lal Baba Mohammad Hussain Farid alias Bilal was nabbed from Nashik at 8.45 p.m.,' said Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief Rakesh Maria.
